David R. Megarry

The very first game 5-year-old David learned was the card game, War, taught to him by his grandfather. His father later taught him to play chess. In grade school, he learned the Parker Brother’s games of Monopoly and Sorry. When he learned to read, Scrabble was added to the list. When he was in high school, he learned to play Avalon Hill games and in college he learned about miniature figure gaming. Gaming has been an interest most of his life. In November, 1972, he invented the fantasy game, Dungeon! which remarkably was published in June, 1975. It has gone through six editions and, on its 50th anniversary, is still in print today.
In the 1980’s, David started a computer software development career and as a contractor, worked on products for Coleco Industries. He was part of the team which programmed the Zaxxon cartridge for the Colecovision game console system, plus Pepper II, Subroc, Tarzan & Spy Hunter. After Coleco Industries went out of business, he continued to be a contractor for Fortune 500 companies. His true talent was being a software tester, an emphasis he retained for the rest of his career. His client list included Control Data Corporation (disk drive firmware), Medtronic (medical device firmware) and Emerson (Flow, Temperature and Pressure measuring device firmware). He retired in 2016 and is now exploring his re-entry into the gaming world as a game designer and editor.
